VOLT nicotine pouches have been discontinued. Swedish Match, the manufacturer behind both VOLT and ZYN, ceased production of the entire VOLT range during 2024 and 2025. The decision was strategic rather than quality-driven: rather than maintaining two parallel premium nicotine pouch brands, Swedish Match absorbed VOLT's flavour portfolio into the ZYN range, where most varieties have a direct or near-identical equivalent.

About VOLT Nicotine Pouches
VOLT was launched by Swedish Match in spring 2021 as a bold, flavour-forward counterpart to ZYN. Where ZYN had built its reputation on clean, restrained profiles and a wide strength range, VOLT was positioned at a younger, more experimental audience – louder branding, more unusual flavour combinations, and two technologies that set it apart from anything else in the Swedish Match portfolio.
The first was the slim all-white pouch format with a slightly softer, more flexible material than ZYN's standard pouches, designed to reduce the gum tingle common with firmer pouches at extra strong and super strong levels. The second – and more distinctive – was VOLT Pearl Technology, used in the Pearls sub-range. Instead of the standard powdered nicotine filler used in all conventional nicotine pouches, VOLT Pearls contained tiny spherical nicotine beads packed inside a slim pouch. Swedish Match claimed this delivered more consistent nicotine and flavour release throughout the session, as each bead released independently rather than the entire filler mass activating at once. The Pearls sub-range launched with Twisted Berry and Midnight Mint and was the most technically innovative product in Swedish Match's nicotine pouch portfolio at the time.
VOLT's flavour strategy was deliberately unconventional. Java Shake brought a coffee-and-caramel profile to the nicotine pouch category at a time when virtually every competitor was competing in the mint and fruit space. Dark Frost and Deep Freeze explored a darker, more complex cooling territory than the clean peppermint of ZYN Cool Mint. Frosted Apple delivered a credible green apple flavour with a mild acidity that several independent reviewers noted was genuinely distinct from generic apple-flavoured products.
Despite strong initial reception, VOLT never achieved the market traction of ZYN. By 2024, Swedish Match – by then a subsidiary of Philip Morris International – made the strategic decision to consolidate its nicotine pouch portfolio around ZYN as a single global brand. Production of VOLT was phased out across 2024 and 2025. The flavours that had found an audience were carried across into ZYN under new names; the more niche varieties, including Java Shake, were discontinued entirely. It was a rational commercial decision, but it left a small but vocal group of Pearls users and Java Shake fans without a direct replacement.

Are VOLT nicotine pouches still available?
No. Swedish Match discontinued the entire VOLT range during 2024 and 2025. All VOLT products have ceased production. Any VOLT cans still available through other retailers are aged remaining stock – check the best-before date carefully before purchasing. Snusdaddy NZ no longer stocks VOLT.
What replaced VOLT?
Swedish Match integrated most VOLT flavours directly into the ZYN range. The equivalents table above maps each VOLT variety we stocked for NZ to its nearest ZYN replacement. Two VOLT varieties – Java Shake (coffee and caramel) – have no direct ZYN equivalent and were discontinued without replacement in the ZYN range.
What was VOLT Pearl Technology?
VOLT Pearl Technology was a proprietary nicotine delivery system used in the VOLT Pearls sub-range. Instead of the powdered plant fibre filler used in standard nicotine pouches, Pearls contained tiny spherical nicotine beads inside each pouch. Swedish Match claimed this delivered more consistent nicotine and flavour release throughout the session. The Pearls format was unique to VOLT and has not been carried across into ZYN – the closest ZYN equivalent for Pearls users is the standard slim format ZYN at a matching strength level.
Who made VOLT?
VOLT was manufactured by Swedish Match AB, the same company behind ZYN, General snus, and Göteborgs Rapé. Swedish Match was acquired by Philip Morris International in 2022. The decision to discontinue VOLT and consolidate around ZYN was made under PMI ownership as part of a broader strategy to focus on ZYN as a single global nicotine pouch brand.
Is there any nicotine pouch with coffee flavour now that Java Shake is gone?
Yes – ZYN Mini Coffee is available in both 3mg and 6mg and is the most direct replacement for Java Shake in terms of flavour and manufacturer. It doesn't reach Java Shake's 9.5–10.5mg strength level, but it's the closest like-for-like coffee option in the ZYN NZ range. Helwit Mocha (coffee and dark chocolate, 6.5mg/pouch) and ON!
