The decision mirrors Swedish Match's broader consolidation strategy: just as VOLT was absorbed into ZYN, the XRANGE brand has been wound down in favour of focusing resources on ZYN as Swedish Match's single global nicotine pouch brand.

About XRANGE
XRANGE – later rebranded simply as XR – was a Swedish Match product line launched as a modern, slim-format reimagining of the company's classic snus heritage. Rather than developing new flavour profiles from scratch, XRANGE took the established flavour recipes of Swedish Match's most iconic brands – General, Göteborgs Rapé, and Catch – and repackaged them into a slim white portion format that was less bulky, less prone to drip, and more discreet than the original portions the classic brands were sold in.
The concept was deliberately bridge-building. Swedish snus had an ageing core user base deeply attached to the classic brands, and a generation of younger users who found the original portion format outdated. XRANGE offered the former a format upgrade without sacrificing the flavours they knew, and offered the latter an entry point into the classic Swedish Match flavour world through a more contemporary product design.
In January 2021, Swedish Match extended XRANGE into the tobacco-free nicotine pouch category with the launch of XR General Free From Tobacco – a product that became genuinely notable in the industry. The idea was audacious: a 100% tobacco-free nicotine pouch that replicated the flavour of General snus as closely as possible. For snus users who wanted to move away from tobacco but couldn't find a tobacco-free pouch that satisfied the same taste expectation, XR General Free From Tobacco was the closest anyone had come to bridging that gap. The launch generated significant industry attention and was widely covered as a meaningful product innovation rather than a line extension.
Despite the positive reception of the tobacco-free line, Swedish Match – by then under Philip Morris International ownership – made the strategic decision to discontinue both the snus and nicotine pouch ranges under the XRANGE/XR name as part of the same portfolio consolidation that ended VOLT. Production of all XRANGE and XR products has now ceased. The tobacco-free pouch range has not been formally replaced within the ZYN lineup, though ZYN Citrus Strong is the closest available equivalent from the same manufacturer for users who valued XR General's tobacco-inspired profile in a tobacco-free format.
